Did You Know 2.0

This video presentation focuses on the future of our society. It asks the question is our educational system doing enough to prepare children for success in "exponential" times? If you have never watched this video before, I think you will enjoy it. During my introduction class into the Human Services major, my professor showed this video and it made an impact on me and how we can prepare both children and a population that struggles in life how to be successful. Enjoy.

Tim~ what are your thoughts?

  1. Good video with some fun numbers about the changing world we live in. Having visited China over the summer, the statistics focused on them were of particular note to me. They aren't outlandish. Times are changing there. The young kids already speak English, and the country's education system is blossoming right now, like everything else of theirs at the moment. Also, at the university level, the Chinese education structure is remarkably different from ours.

It's worth noting that, while India and China are graduating more people than America by a landslide, they also have tons more people. Furthermore, I don't know what kind of co-curricular and extracurricular activities their schools offer, but I doubt they are more extensive than America's. I don't know if that's a good or bad thing, but it's a difference worth keeping in mind.

Lastly, I worry that people (especially politicians) get too focused on how America compares to other nations. We have problems at home that we don't need to look at other countries to realize, or fix. Too high of focus on where we rank internationally doesn't leave room for our in-house problems to get the attention they need. There needs to be a balance that I don't think exists right now.
